On 21 November 2019 a forensic kit and technical equipment were donated by the Italian Ministry of Interior within the IPA/2017 Countering Serious Crime in the Western Balkans Project, to be used by Montenegrin Police forensic experts during crime scene investigations.

“Forensic evidence is increasingly important in criminal matters. Law enforcement and judicial authorities must be confident that the forensic data they rely on is of high quality. This is why I am hopeful that today’s donation and the project as a whole will help in strengthening the capacities of the Forensic Centre and enhancing the already existing cross-border cooperation with the European Union countries in fighting organised crime”, stated the EU Ambassador to Montenegro Aivo Orav at the donation ceremony.

Italian Ministry of Interior IPA/2017 Project Leader Gennaro Capoluongo expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with Montenegrin Police. Furthermore, Mr. Capoluongo stated that transnational crime is a threat to global security and only joint efforts can counter organised crime in a proactive and successful way.

The ceremony was attended by Montenegrin Police Director Veselin Veljovic and the Italian Ambassador of Montenegro H.E. Luca Zelioli, who expressed that the equipment and implementation of planned activities will enhance capacities of competent authorities in conducting investigations. He emphasized the importance of exchanging information and supporting operational work in current police cases.
